Jean Johnson has been a student of experiential education and the human potential movement for over 20 years. In that time she has attended a multitude of workshops, classes and retreats studying yoga, meditation, interpersonal relationships and spiritual development. Her teaching style can best be described as “Spiritual Slow Flow.” Jean is certified in Integrative Yoga Therapy. She lives with her husband, two school age daughters and two bdogs in Novato, California.

My father was a physical therapist – he ignited in me a passion for the wonder of the human body. My mother is a dreamer – she has instilled in me the gift of seeing beauty in small things everywhere: the written word, a fog-enshrouded hillside, the smell of chocolate. It seems only natural to me, then, that my path should be one of uncovering the mysteries surrounding our bodily existence here on the planet. But as my family roots are from the midwest, it also makes sense that this search has brought me to the study of the non-esoteric (really!) practice of Yoga. I am a literal person, and Yoga is a practical life path.

I used to believe that my life path was a circuitous one. I did not begin a career out of college and follow it in a linear fashion to become an expert in a field after 25 years. Mine has always been a path of searching, and I realize now that the choices I have made along the way have served me perfectly. I like to say that I have always been on the path of Yoga, I just didn’t realize it until mid-life.

I worked in and around healthcare for over 20 years, attending nursing school, selling pharmaceuticals, directing an osteoporosis clinic in a women’s hospital, and was involved in drug development and conference planning for a start-up biotech. I have been a gymnast, a dancer and a triathlete. I gave birth to my daughters at the ages of 38 and 40. This rich and varied background has given me a unique perspective on health in general, and health in our times in particular. It has also given me insight into the challenges facing working parents, people involved in high stress industries, older individuals facing health issues…I’ve been these people, and I’ve been in service to these people.

I continue to be in service to these people, to you, through the teaching of Yoga. I believe that Yoga can bring emotional calm, physical well-being, and spiritual healing to a planetful of people where these necessities are in painfully short supply. I believe that we all deserve to be cradled in this vast, rich, magical, ancient gift of Yoga. It is my deepest and humblest desire to share this gift with you.
