“Let the beauty that you love be what you do.” ~ Rumi
In my classes, I try to incorporate the needs of the students present in the class, encouraging them to reach for their highest potential as they listen to their own inner compass. I feel that my job is as a facilitator, to translate the teachings in a way that is accessible to students but also stretches them physically and spiritually. I practice and teach intuitively, deliberately and with clarity and great reverence for the practice.
Awareness of body, mind and breath, cultivation of our inner witness, and mindfulness meditation are elements that are included to varying degrees in all classes. Humor and playfulness are essential elements. I create each class given the season, the weather, the students in the room, and the environment of the moment. Each class is a gift from each of us to each of us.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle yoga classes are appropriate for those seeking a slower, relaxing, nurturing yoga experience. Students may include those who are new to yoga, older, pregnant, living with or recovering from illness, surgery or other conditions, or those simply desiring a lovely, mellow yoga class. Classes are typically taught with low lighting at a slow pace and alternative poses or postures are given to those who may need them.
Mixed Level Yoga
Mixed level yoga classes are appropriate for all levels of practitioner, from beginners to more experienced students. The pace of the class is such that poses are fully explored and moved into and out of mindfully. Advanced variations of poses as well as modifications are offered.
Intermediate Level and Level I/II Yoga
Intermediate level yoga classes are appropriate for those who have an established, regular yoga practice. Inversions, backbends and arm balances are included in these more challenging and vigorous flow style classes. Classes designated “Level I/II” are appropriate for those with at least a cursory knowledge of yoga and a desire to develop their yoga practice further.
Slow Flow
Flow yoga, or “vinyasa” yoga, simply means connecting yoga poses so that they flow smoothly from one to the next. Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) are normally the foundation for flow yoga, with standing poses intermixed within the elements of this standard vinyasa.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is the practice of coming into floor poses and holding them for a longer period of time, usually three to five minutes. This practice allows for profound opening and softening of the deeper connective tissues and fascia, especially in and around the pelvic girdle, allowing for increased flexibility and the easy flow of energy throughout the body.
